Women’s Health Week September 3rd-7th
When it comes to health, many women are fantastic at caring for others but often put themselves last. Women’s Health Week being held from 3rd-7th September is all about helping women to put their own health first and this means your entire health including oral health.
Boulton Dental have complied 7 quick and easy tips for our lovely local Newcastle ladies to help achieve optimal oral health and wellbeing.
-
Brush your teeth and mouth properly
Yes, we said mouth, not just teeth. Your teeth are not the only thing in your mouth; you have your gums, tongue and the roof of your mouth and those need cleaning too.
We all appreciate that time is precious, but even if you are you are a busy mum, a hard- working executive, whoever ever you are, no matter what your schedule, finding time to properly brush your teeth and mouth is crucial. A regular daily oral hygiene routine, involving brushing twice daily is an absolute must for all our lovely ladies!

Don’t skip flossing
Too often our female patients come to us apologising that they simply haven’t had time to floss regularly. If there is one thing you can do to improve your oral health, it is to introduce flossing into your daily routine. Flossing is key as it helps to get rid of food residue and other detrimental substances stuck between the teeth that brushing alone simple can’t do.
-
Eating for a healthy smile
The foods you choose and how often you eat them can affect your general health and the health of your teeth and gums. Proper nutrition means eating a well-balanced diet so that your body can get the nutrients needed for optimal health and wellness.
If your diet is low in the nutrients your body needs, your mouth may have a more difficult time resisting infection. This may contribute to periodontal disease, a major cause of tooth loss in adults.
Foods such as nuts, fruits (such as apples), cheese, chicken and vegetables are teeth friendly. Cheese also causes your salivary gland to produce more saliva, which neutralises acid.
-
Drink plenty of water
H20 is fantastic for your overall health and oral health, and its calorie free! Tap water in most areas of Australia also contains fluoride, one of the easiest and most beneficial ways to help prevent tooth decay. By choosing water and regularly sipping it during the day, you are making a great choice for your pearly whites not to mention your body, so grab your water bottle and keep it close at all times!
-
Visit the dentist regularly
Applying everything stated in the previous points is not an excuse not to go for regular dental check-ups. All you can do is your best and then leave the rest to your dental care expert. You make the time to book your hair appointment and your car for servicing, so don’t skip the health of your smile. Make it a habit to visit your dental care clinic regularly for full oral check-up and teeth cleaning. There are dental problems that you may not be able to identify on your own. Adhering to this can save you major dental work in the future and save you a lot of money in the long run.
Boulton Dental is open extended hours and on Saturdays to make it easier to fit dental care into your busy schedule and offer easy online booking too.

Remember to smile
Did you know that smiling more often can improve your health and help you live longer? Smiling can boost your mood when you’re feeling down, provide stress relief and may be beneficial for people struggling with anxiety and depression. Smiling and laughing more appear to help lower your blood pressure, which is good news for your heart health too. So, crack out your pearly whites more often and enjoy the benefits.
