If you’ve lost a tooth or we make the decision that the only option is extraction, then we’re going to start talking to you about dental implants. Yes, they can be expensive but they’re the closest thing to having a natural tooth.
There are two components to an implant: a titanium core and a porcelain crown. The titanium is buried in your tooth and left undisturbed for a bit to allow the bone to grow around it. After a time, it’s uncovered and we attach your tooth to the titanium.
We are delighted to improving smiles for our patients across Newcastle, Bar Beach, Merewether, Cooks Hill, The Junction, Merewether Heights, Hamilton South, Adamstown and beyond.
Obviously, because of the different procedures, you’ll need more than one visit to us.
If you need to have more than one tooth replaced, the more viable option may be a fixed bridge anchored to an implant. Especially if the teeth we’re replacing are in the back of your mouth (and doing all the heavy lifting when it comes to chewing), a traditional denture won’t give you the function you’ll want. The fixed bridge option is a stable, secure solution that lets you eat what you want as well as preserving your facial appearance.
You can expect 4-5 additional visits until the final fixed bridge is permanently attached. You may experience some discomfort afterwards but you won’t need anything more than an over-the-counter painkiller.
‘Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.’
